The Dare A250 Life, Liberty and Liftoff Faire Lands in Manteo This Month

Dare County is hosting one of the most ambitious community events of the year. The Dare A250 Life, Liberty and Liftoff Faire runs Saturday, April 18 in downtown Manteo — a free, all-day celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, built around the theme "Liberty, Legacy, and Liftoff in the Land of Beginnings." It's a nod to the county's double claim on American history: the site of the first English attempts at a New World colony in 1587 and the place where humans first flew in 1903.

The day weaves live music, historical storytelling, and a patriotic show through a downtown that is already one of the most walkable on the Outer Banks. Expect costumed reenactors, a food and drink village, family activities, and an art display honoring the figures who shaped Dare County — from Walter Raleigh's lost colonists to the Wright Brothers. The 5th Annual Wilbur Wright Day at Jennette's Pier on April 16 is the warm-up.

If you're going: Manteo is 45 minutes south of Duck and about 30 minutes from Nags Head. Parking is free but fills early. The nearby Elizabethan Gardens are a good late-afternoon companion visit once the Faire winds down.
